NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF HAZARDOUS HYDROCARBON WASTE IN TURBULENT DUMP COMBUSTOR

ABSTRACT
Solutions of the steady, two-dimensional Navier-Stokes. thermal energy, radiation litis, and species conservation equations have been computed for a dump eonihitstor. I he equations are solved in the con¬servative linilc-differcncc fonn on a nonuniform rectilinear mid of sufficient resolution to uccuraich capture the momentum and thermal boundary layers. Numerical procedure lor solving (he differential equation is used bv the SIMI'l h(Semi-Implicit Methods for Pressure-I inked l.qualions) algorithm. A /, e model is incorporated lor the enclosure of turbulence vvilh a wall function, Combustion model is used by I S( RSiextendcd simple chemically-reacting system) sith eddv break-up model which (he rate of reaction is controlled by the rate ol turbulent dissipation (i.e. eddy breakup). l or the destruction of ha/ardous waste, the waste is injected in the recirculation /one of high tempearture with the condition not to be dislurbcd combuslion cavily kxeess oxygen horn a lean core tlaine can be effectively utili/ed to destruet the hydrocarbon waste injected as luel-rich condition. I he core llame has a very significant impact on Ihe structure ol' recirculation cell, in some eases completly changing the nature of the How within the cavity. Ihe optimum velocitv of waste injection exists for highest temperature at recirculation /one. A premised llame type of the ausihar fuel is good lor high temperature incineration and long residence time to be large cavity in Ihe recirculation /one.
